Air Commodore James Badgery Appointed to the AFA National Board

The Air Force Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Air Commodore James Badgery to its National Board.

AIRCDRE Badgery, currently serving as the Chief of Staff at the Air Force Headquarters, boasts an illustrious career spanning almost three decades.

Commencing his journey with the Royal Australian Air Force in 1995 as an Officer Cadet, he rose through the ranks while contributing profoundly to the realm of aerospace. A graduate of RMIT University with an Honours degree in Aerospace Engineering, AIRCDRE Badgery’s dedication to his craft saw him play pivotal roles in various capacities. Notably, he was a part of the team awarded the RAAF Maintenance Trophy in 2001 during his tenure as the F/A-18 aircraft maintenance officer.

Throughout his career, AIRCDRE Badgery has displayed exceptional skills not only in engineering and maintenance but also in areas of strategic workforce planning, personnel management and command selection, earning him a Chief of Air Force commendation.

His academic pursuits and achievements are equally impressive. After standing out as the top foreign student at the Joint Command and Staff College in India, he furthered his education by completing Masters in both Engineering Science and Defence Strategic Studies.

AIRCDRE Badgery’s commitment to excellence was acknowledged nationally when he was bestowed with the Member of the Order of Australia in 2022. This accolade celebrated his remarkable service in aerospace capability development, project management and the application of airworthiness regulation.

Outside of his professional achievements, AIRCDRE Badgery is married to Alyssa and a proud father to their three sons and daughter. An avid cyclist, he also spends quality time in his workshop and actively contributes to his local soccer club.

He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, and a Chartered Program Director.

This appointment reflects the Association’s commitment to integrating leaders with profound experience and dedication.
