Deanna Nott appointed to AFA Board

Defence communications specialist joins National Board

Defence communications expert WGCDR Deanna Nott has been appointed to the board of Australia’s national Air Force Association.

WGCDR Deanna Nott is a Queensland-based public relations specialist and former journalist who is also an Air Force Specialist Reservist celebrating 28 years of service next month (February).

National President Carl Schiller said Wing Commander Nott would be responsible for developing the Association’s strategic communication strategy and implementing innovative changes on how it communicates with veterans and the wider community.

“The Association is reviewing its business structure to achieve efficiencies and modernise its business processes, including its communication systems,” he said.

“Deanna’s extensive public relations, communication, marketing, advocacy and community engagement experience, in both public and private sectors, makes her a valuable asset to the association.”

Deanna is the longest serving Public Affairs Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and part of a new generation of executives helping to shape Australia’s modern defence force.

A Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Australia, Deanna has a Master of Defence Studies and is also a Graduate of the Institute of Company Directors.

“With almost three decades of service, I have seen the Australian Defence Force experience such dramatic progression, however despite such change, there is still a unique culture, connection and way of operating in Defence that is a mystery for many people outside.

“Being invited to help grow a wider understanding, to encourage a more diverse point of view, and to provide a voice for the wider Air Force community on the Association Board is an incredible privilege.

“For me, there is no better time to be serving in the RAAF. As the Director of Wings Public Relations, I am also so fortunate to be part of the sovereign defence industry too – the workforce behind the ADF – as our nation embarks on one of the biggest growth periods the Defence industry has ever seen.”

The Air Force Association Australia is the peak community organisation for serving Air Force members, alumni, families and supporters. It fosters friendships, based on shared Air Force and aviation experience, supports commemorative activities, heritage and records of history, and provides for the welfare of members through advice, liaison and representation.
