BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’
RAAFA Queensland Division will bring branch representatives from across the state to Logan Central next year for its 50th Annual Assembly of Delegates (AAD), which the Division is describing as one of the most significant gatherings in its history.
The Assembly will run from 14 to 16 May 2027 at the Diggers Services Club, Logan Central, drawing delegates for a weekend combining organisational business, commemoration, and camaraderie. As the Division’s peak annual gathering, the AAD serves as a practical alternative to a full general meeting, allowing branch representatives to convene in one place rather than requiring members to travel individually.
“This is where the future of the Division gets shaped,” said John Griffiths MBE, a member of RAAFA Queensland’s State Executive with a focus on supporting members in the Logan area.
Delegates will handle a full slate of governance business over the weekend, including electing the State Executive – the State President, Vice Presidents and Treasurer – reviewing audited accounts and financial strategy for the year ahead, and mapping out the Division’s operational calendar of events and welfare initiatives supporting veterans and their families. Branches will also bring motions to the floor, with voting weighted according to each branch’s proportional membership.
The program pairs the formal business of a traditional AGM with interactive forums on governance, leadership and related skills, giving delegates practical tools to bring back to their branches. Griffiths singled out youth involvement as a priority for the Division.
“We’re especially keen to see younger members step up and take part,” he said. “This is your chance to bring your ideas, your energy, and your priorities into the room where decisions get made – the Association is only as strong as the voices shaping it.”
Tradition remains part of the weekend too, with a formal dinner in military style and a commemoration service honouring those who served closing out the Assembly.
Attendance is structured around branch representation, with each branch sending delegates proportional to its membership size – giving branch leaders from across Queensland a rare chance to meet face-to-face with counterparts they might otherwise only hear from at a distance.
