SA Welcomes All to Annual Battle of Britain Commemorative Service

BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’

The Battle of Britain, fought from July to October 1940, was an epic air campaign that led to the first military defeat of Germany in World War 2 and has become synonymous with defiantly defending one’s nation in the air.

The battle and gallant actions of the allied personnel involved were so crucial, that they inspired Winston Churchill to famously declare ‘Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.’

Eight South Australian aircrew, fought in the Battle of Britain – approximately one-quarter of the total number of Australians. While some paid the ultimate sacrifice, some survived, and some became aces. Every year, we come together to honour the brave allied aviators who became known as “the Few” at the annual Battle of Britain Commemorative Service at the Air Force Memorial, Torrens Parade Ground, Adelaide.

Please join us on Saturday 16 September 2023 for what will be another special commemorative service to honour South Australia’s “The Few.”

The Service will commence at 11 am.

Medals/Decorations may be worn.

Wreaths/Tributes may be laid at the Memorial.

The Air Force Association will be hosting a morning tea for attendees in the Torrens Parade Ground Drill Hall immediately following the commemorative service.

Parking will be available at Torrens Parade Ground for those attending the service.

For further information or to register your attendance please phone 08 7374 7670 or email 1rsu.admin@defence.gov.au
