Pilgrimage to the Charters Towers War Cemetery

The RAAF Association, Townsville Branch invites media and the general public to join them on a pilgrimage to the War Cemetery, Charters Towers to remember those Defence Force personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice during operational service in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.

Time:                             10.00AM start

Venue:                           Charters Towers War Cemetery. Dalrymple Road

The pilgrimage will be attended by the RAAF Association State President, Branch Executives and members, representatives from the ADF, Federal and State Politics and Charters Towers Regional Council as well as representatives from other Ex-Service Organisations.

During the service, members of the RAAF Association and invited guests will move through the War Cemetery placing a single red poppy on each of the 33 headstones.  This will be conducted with a Drummer playing a single drum beat with each step taken as Chaplain, Rev Dr Wayne Melrose blesses the graves.  Branch President, Mr Basil Nelson will give a brief address following the laying of the poppies.
