AFA-SA Engagement with South Australian Aviation Museum

BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’

AFA-SA has met with South Australian Aviation Museum (SAAM) leadership to discuss future collaboration opportunities.

AFA-SA President, Lawrence Ng, and Vice-President GPCAPT Greg Weller, met with SAAM Vice President, Nigel Daw and Secretary Jean Kopp, to review recent collaboration initiatives and identify areas where we could work together in the future.

AFA-SA closely has closely worked with SAAM over the last ten years on areas of mutual interest in promoting Air Force heritage.

This includes the Epic Flight Centenary marking in 2019 the 100th anniversary of the remarkable and record-breaking flight of the famous Vickers Vimy G-EAOU and RAAF Centenary in 2021.

As a major project to help mark the Epic Flight Centenary, AFA-SA provided the funding for the magnificent Vickers Vimy Mural on the main hangar of SAAM.

AFA-SA work closely in researching Air Force heritage and sharing information pertinent to the Air Force story in South Australia.  This includes producing profiles for SAAM and AFA-SA on South Australians who have served in the Air Force.

Last year, AFA-SA collaborated with SAAM on the development of the wonderful new Air Force Memorial at SAAM and co-hosting the Dedication and Inaugural Commemorative Service at the Memorial.

Promoting Air Force Heritage and telling the Air Force story is a key priority for AFA-SA and by working with heritage organisations such as SAAM, we hope to ensure that the Air Force story is appropriately preserved, protected and told for future generations.

AFA-SA look forward to working with SAAM in the future on Air Force heritage.

The South Australian Aviation Museum, the premier aviation museum in South Australia, has a wonderful collection of aviation artifacts and a major focus on military aviation heritage. if you have not visited the museum in recent years., we strongly recommend you visit and see the wonderful collection of RAAF aircraft on display at the museum and our joint projects such as the Vickers Vimy mural and the new Air Force Memorial.
