AFA Shines at Avalon Airshow with Community Spirit and Aviation Flair

The Air Force Association has made a strong impression at the recent Avalon Australian International Airshow, with its Hall 4 stand drawing hundreds of visitors to explore the combined AFA and Wings magazine display.

The setup proved a magnet for aviation enthusiasts, particularly children and teens, who were delighted by a foldable paper plane sheet designed by Dylan Parker—known for his 2009 Paper Plane Championships fame and a subsequent movie inspired by his story.

The AFA’s flagship publication, Wings, was in high demand, with many attendees signing up for subscriptions and memberships.

National Vice President Deanna Nott was on hand to connect with the crowd and highlight the organisation’s mission.

“It’s wonderful to see so many people, especially the younger generation, engaging with aviation heritage,” Nott said.

“Events like Avalon give us a chance to share what the AFA stands for—supporting our community and honouring our history.”

Nott also took part in an interview with Wing Commander Michael Veitch, a celebrated comedian, author and RAAF History and Heritage Branch member, for the airshow’s on-site television station.

“We’re proud of our work, especially efforts like supporting homeless veterans,” she told Veitch. “It’s about making a real difference for those who’ve served.”

The event was captured in striking photographs, featuring the AFA team, Nott with Veitch, and a moment alongside former Chief of Navy and AMDA Board Chairman Tim Barrett, all set against a backdrop of impressive aircraft. The Avalon Airshow proved a perfect stage for the AFA to showcase its commitment to aviation and community support.
