Air Force Association Expands Digital Presence to Unite Generations of Veterans and Support Those in Need

BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’

As the Air Force Association (AFA) continues its mission to support and advocate for Australia’s veterans, it is embracing new digital platforms and a refreshed image to connect with veterans from all branches of service.

Recent enhancements include redesigned marketing materials and the launch of national Facebook and LinkedIn pages, creating an inclusive space for veterans and their families to stay informed and engaged.

AFA President and Chair, Air Vice-Marshal Joe Iervasi, AM, CSC, who joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1985 and retired from full-time service in 2022, said the Association had always been committed to advocating for veterans.

“With our updated digital presence, we’re building a space where veterans, whether newly transitioned or long-serving, can feel a sense of belonging and support,” he said.

“We are committed to staying relevant and accessible to all veterans. Our new digital platforms will not only inform but also foster connection among our members nationwide, creating a unified community.”

The AFA remains dedicated to advocating for all veterans, including those from the Navy and Army, and is a strong voice within the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Ex-Service Organisations Round Table (ESORT). The national board includes distinguished members such as former Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Mel Hupfeld AO, DSC (Rtd), Greg Hood AO, Brigadier James “Jim” Campbell AM (rtd), Air Commodore James Badgery AM and Honorary Secretary/Treasurer Peter Colliver OAM.

AFA Vice President, Wing Commander Deanna Nott, an active Reservist and seasoned communications professional, highlighted how the new digital presence would assist the AFA with its veterans’ homelessness initiative.

“For over 100 years, the Air Force Association has been there for Australian veterans,” she said.

“Today, we’re continuing this proud legacy by raising funds for vital accommodation and services for veterans facing homelessness. Our housing-first approach, delivered through dedicated partners, ensures veterans and their families can rebuild their lives with the support they deserve.”

The AFA invites veterans and supporters to follow its national pages on Facebook and LinkedIn for news, events and updates.

“Together, the AFA continues to advocate, commemorate and support the veteran community as it grows and evolves,” said AVM Iervasi.
