Pilgrimage to the Townsville War Cemetery

The RAAF Association, Townsville Branch invites media and the general public to join them on a pilgrimage to the Townsville War Cemetery, to remember those Defence Force personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice during operational service in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.

Time:                           9.30AM start

Venue:                        Townsville War Cemetery. Belgian Gardens

The pilgrimage will be attended by the RAAF Association State President, Branch Executives and members, representatives from the ADF and Townsville City Council as well as representatives from other Ex-Service Organisations.

During the service, members of the RAAF Association and invited guests will move through the War Cemetery placing a single red poppy on each of the 222 headstones.  This will be conducted with a Drummer playing a single drum beat with each step taken as Chaplain, Rev David Kelly, blesses the graves.  Branch President, Mr Basil Nelson will give a brief address following the laying of the poppies.
