Shaping Support Service for Women Veterans

BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’

NSW Office for Veterans Affairs, RSL NSW and Monash University have launched the “Shaping Support Services for Women Veterans” research project to enhance wellbeing services for women who have served in the Australian Defence Force and reside in New South Wales.

This initiative, aligned with the NSW Veterans Strategy 2025-2030, focuses on understanding and addressing specific challenges faced by women veterans, including health issues, caregiving responsibilities and service-related physical and mental health concerns.

The project invites participation from women veterans who have accessed veteran-specific services in the past 24 months.

They can contribute through a 20-minute online survey – details about the study are here https://www.monash.edu/medicine/women-veterans-support/research

Participation in both is optional, and those interested in interviews can contact veteran-projects@monash.edu directly.

With 14,923 women veterans in NSW, representing 11.7% of the state’s 127,600 veterans according to the 2021 ABS Census, broad participation is crucial to ensure the research reflects diverse experiences. The findings aim to inform the development of tailored support programs, addressing gaps in gender-specific care.

Support services are available for participants who may experience distress, including Lifeline (13 11 14), Beyond Blue (1300 224 636), 13YARN (13 92 72), SeMPRO (1800 736 776) and 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).
