BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’
Planning is well underway for two significant commemorations honouring veterans of the Korean War and the Malayan Emergency, with events set to take place in Canberra. These commemorations provide an important opportunity to recognise the service and sacrifices of those who served.
The Korean War Commemoration will be held on 25 June at the Korean War Memorial on ANZAC Parade. The event will pay tribute to the 1,077 known living veterans of the conflict. A 500-seat marquee with heating will be installed to ensure attendee comfort during the winter event.
The Malayan Emergency Commemoration will take place at 10.30 am on 31 August at Rond Terrace, Canberra, on the Lake Burley Griffin foreshore. A temporary memorial will serve as the centrepiece of the event, accommodating up to 500 attendees. This commemoration will honour the dedication and sacrifice of veterans who served during the Malayan Emergency.
Air Force Association National Secretary Peter Colliver has attended both the Korean War Consultative Committee and the Malayan Emergency Consultative Committee meetings on behalf of the Association, contributing to discussions on the planning and veteran participation for both events.
A key focus is identifying veterans who will be attending and may be willing to share their experiences in media interviews. While media opportunities may arise, participation will depend on availability and demand.
The Air Force Association invites veterans and their families to express interest in attending and participating in these important commemorations. Those nominating are asked to provide a brief summary of their relevant service, along with their name and contact details.

In other related news, plans have been unveiled for a monument in the civic centre of Seoul that will honour veterans from each of the 22 nations that supported South Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War. The monument was announced recently by Seoul’s Mayor Oh Se-hoon.
