Honouring Outstanding Youth

In August of 1966, during the historic Battle of Long Tan in Vietnam, 108 Australian men found themselves in a dire situation, outnumbered 10 to one by a formidable Viet Cong Battalion.

They displayed extraordinary courage, resilience and teamwork to survive against all odds.

Fast forward to the present day, and across the nation, Australian Defence Force members are recognising young individuals who embody the same spirit of cooperation and leadership. AFA National board member and Director of Communications, WGCDR Deanna Nott, recently had the privilege of presenting Long Tan Youth Leadership and Future Innovators Awards to Year 10 and Year 12 students at Southport State High School and Pacific Pines High School on the Gold Coast in November.

These students, like their peers across the country, have demonstrated admirable dedication to working together and achieving their goals. They serve as role models for their fellow students, representing the values of teamwork, leadership, and innovation.

This nationwide recognition of young individuals who exemplify these values is heartening, and it reflects the ongoing commitment of the Australian Defence Force to celebrate and encourage such qualities in the younger generation. These students deserve applause for their outstanding achievements and the positive impact they make on their communities.
