Commemorative Medallion and Certificate for Vietnam War Veterans

BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’

Applications for the special Commemorative Medallion and Certificate of Commemoration produced by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War close on 26 July 2024.

About the Commemorative Medallion and Certificate

The medallion and certificate are available to every Australian Vietnam War veteran or their widow or family member. Each veteran is entitled to one medallion, which is presented in a display case with a card explaining the design. The medallion features:

  • The Commonwealth Coat of Arms on the obverse with ‘Vietnam War’ and ‘Australia Remembers’.
  • Depictions of a UH-1 Iroquois ‘Huey’ Helicopter, HMAS Sydney (III) ‘Vung Tau Ferry’, and an Australian soldier holding an SLR on the reverse.
  • Inscription of the years 1962-73, representing Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War, and words of thanks.

The accompanying certificate includes the Commonwealth Coat of Arms, ‘Australia Remembers’ wording, and signatures from both the Governor-General and the Prime Minister. It is designed for independent display, framing and mounting.

How to Apply

Applications can be made online at the National Mail & Marketing website via the DVA website at www.dva.gov.au/vietnam50. If you encounter any difficulties with your application, please email Commemorative.Events@dva.gov.au for assistance.

Eligibility

It is important to note that every Australian who served in Vietnam is eligible for this medallion. However, members of allied nations who served with Australian forces are not eligible.

This commemorative effort is a meaningful way to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices of the 60,000 Australians who served in Vietnam. While it cannot repay the debt owed to these brave individuals, it serves as a symbol of appreciation and recognition from the nation.
