AFA-SA Welcomes AFA National Board Director for 2025 AGM

BATTLE OF BRITAIN ‘LACE’

The Air Force Association (South Australia) recently conducted its 2025 Annual General Meeting at the Torrens Parade Ground.

Key guest was AFA National Board Director, Mr Greg Hood, who was in Adelaide for the Dedication of the new Air Force Memorial at the South Australian Aviation Museum and to represent AFA National at AFA-SA AGM.

Prior to the formalities of the AGM, attendees came together at Torrens Parade Ground Air Force Memorial for a simple wreath laying service to honour those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Vice president AFA-SA, GPCAPT Greg Weller, briefly spoke about the Air Force legacy that has been forged by the more than 350,000 Australians who have served in the Air Force over the last 100 years and the more than 11,000 who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in doing so and in particular, the more than 3,000 whose remains remain unknown and thus, have no known grave. The President AFA-SA, Lawrence Ng, and Greg Hood then laid tributes in honour of the fallen after which Lawrence Ng recited the Ode leading all in a minutes silence.

Attendees then moved into the Memorial Room of the Torrens Parade Ground Drill Hall to listen to Greg Hood speak about AFA National support to veterans. During his address, he noted the outstanding work of AFA-SA in commemoration, work with the Australian Air Force Cadets, promoting Air Force heritage and in social media and communications in South Australia.

After enjoying a light lunch, Lawrence Ng lead attendees through the formalities of the AGM where attendees received the 2024-20-25 AFA-SA Annual Report and voted in a new State Council. He particularly commended outgoing State Councilor, Dr Robert Black (GPCAPT Retd) who has served with distinguished service the Division over many years as a President, Vice-President and State Councilor earning much respect across the veteran’s community.  Meanwhile, Greg Hood congratulated the association “on a seriously impressive annual report notings its vast and interesting information, stories, presentation, photos of people who matter, and even a photo of a Link Trainer that he flew as an air training corps cadet!

During the visit, AFA-SA Vice President GPCAPT Greg Weller showed Greg Hood the Link Trainer which AFA-SA is intending to be the centerpiece of a permanent display at the Torrens Parade Ground showcasing South Australia’s significant contribution to the Air Force through the training of aviators at bases such as Mallala, Port Pirie, Mt Gambier and Parafield.
